About Teresa

As an artist and cultural consultant, Teresa Jaynes works at the intersection of contemporary art, public history, and education. Her formal education was in fine arts, earning an MFA from Tyler School of Art, Temple University. But it was her life as an artist that taught her how to create ambitious cultural projects through collective endeavors. For more than two decades she has led cross-disciplinary collaborations among artists, scholars, cultural institutions, and community partners, with a focus on initiatives that don't fit neatly into a single institution or discipline.

A Pew and MacDowell fellow, Teresa has worked in libraries and special collections since 1995, drawn to the way historical materials can ground contemporary inquiry and open unexpected pathways for public engagement. At Lenapehoking~Watershed, a consulting project she directed over five years, artist- and community-led programs were designed to help residents feel seen and welcomed at environmental education centers — with artists serving as interpreters who create meaningful, nature-based experiences of inclusion.

Her consulting and artist practices share the same foundation: taking an idea from a vague notion to a full concept through a guided collaborative process. Both involve building partnerships among organizations whose combined expertise creates something none could produce alone. In both, Teresa carries responsibility for the work from the first concept through the final report — shaping the vision, building the team, and delivering initiatives within budget and on time. The results are projects of high artistic quality that cultivate community engagement through an inclusive and equitable process.

Teresa is based in Philadelphia, a city whose cultural life has informed and sustained her practice throughout her career.
